Certified Athletic Therapist

I am originally from South-Eastern Ontario, ventured west to British Columbia for a job that some say is a “Canadian rite-of-passage”: Tree Planting. I’ve just finished my 8th season tree planting in Northern BC. I loved this job because it took me all over the province to some amazing and beautiful places! But mountain biking, hiking and snowboarding brought me back to the mountains and I quickly fell in love with the scenery and active lifestyles that small towns like Revelstoke have to offer.

In 2015, I graduated from Sheridan College with a Bachelor of Health Sciences specializing in Athletic Therapy and in 2008 I obtained a diploma in Fitness and Health Promotion. Over the past few years, I’ve been working and volunteering as an Athletic Therapist, Strength and Conditioning Coach/Personal Trainer and First Responder for schools, organizations and sports teams including Loyalist College, St. Lawrence College, Ultimate Frisbee Canada and The TransRockies Singletrack 6.

My current certifications and continuing education courses are:

  • Athletic Therapy
  • Soft Tissue Release
  • Therapeutic Cupping
  • NeuroKinetic Therapy 1
  • CranioSacral Therapy 1
  • First Responder/CPR/AED level HCP

What is an Athletic Therapist?

Athletic Therapists specialize in the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal injuries (muscles, bones, joints, ligaments, and tendons). We rehabilitate chronic and acute injuries obtained from: sports, recreation and industrial or work related activities. Athletic Therapists are highly skilled in manual and exercise therapy. We look at the body as a whole and treat the cause of the injury. This approach results in a faster return to activity and a decreased chance of re-injury.

Athletic Therapists treat:

  • Acute injuries from sports, activity, work, slips and falls (sprains, strains, pains, etc.)
  • Chronic and overuse injuries and conditions (tendonitis, impingement, etc.)
  • Posture, movement and biomechanical screening
  • Muscle imbalances and fascial restrictions
  • Concussions and over all well-being
